Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are Electric Vehicles Hard To Build?
A: The basic skills required to build the electric vehicle can be obtained by taking the simple 8 hour class.  The most difficult part of the project can be making alterations to the vehicle to support or mount the batteries.  Just because you can't weld doesn't mean you can't build a car!  Many portions of the project can be done by your local mechanic or body shop if necessary.  ACE can assist you in finding local help to perform this.

Q: How far can they travel on a charge and how fast can they go?
A: For the most part, you get to decide this!  The distance and speed are a function of the vehicle that you have chosen (weight/size) and how many batteries you want to add.  The kind of batteries also will effect the overall range.  For example, the 1949 Willy  can go about 50 mile on a charge.  It has 12 12v lead acid batteries in it.  The top speed is around 70 MPH.

When you are planning your electric vehicle project, you need to decide how far and how fast you want to go, as these will effect he overall cost of the conversion.
